Would some kind soul please advise correct settings in OE for the Onetel
server?
I have been using : "mail.net.uk" However, I have a sneaky feeling I am
wrong. My friend is still experiencing difficulties sending and receiving
mail in Outlook Express. He adjusted his settings after the Onetel problems
and rather then switching to a new provider , he thinks after they have
sorted the current problems, they will be better than all the others. Hope
he is right!
TIA

Contact your ISP for this information, Fred.

Or see if you can find the information here: http://support.onetel.co.uk
(I'm unable to open any Onetel Support pages right now.)

Here's one rather worrisome page I was able to access and I'm not so sure
everything's OK now: http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?node=email-problem

Thanks for your response, I have been trying onetels support page 175 for
the last 10 days without success.
However I found on www.oeupdates.com some info from Steve, which may help.
POP3 & SMTP both he seems to suggest 'mail.onetel.com' . I shall try both
tomorrow and trust these adjustments will be suitable.

Call them on the telephone. You're /paying/ for such support.

Or see "Which Server? Not sure what your e-mail settings are or have a new
PC? Check the details in your registration letter or visit
support.onetel.co.uk to find out." on the page Bob cited,

Onetel did have email problems, which they attributed to spammers, who
had hijacked their mail servers. According to their website, everything
is working OK.

With regard to the addresses of the mail servers, visit
http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?node=iguide-4-1

Try the following amendments:

Amend "mail.net.uk" to "mail.onetel.net" (for POP and also for SMTP).

If that doesn't work, try "pop.onetel.net" for incoming mail and
"smtp.onetel.net" for outgoing mail.

Finally, if neither of these suggestions works, try the same addresses
again, with the suffix dot uk (after "net").

Following my previous response, I have discovered that all of the
various permutations (mail.onetel.net; mail.onetel.net.uk;
pop.onetel.net; pop.onetel.net.uk; smtp.onetel.net and
smtp.onetel.net.uk) point to the IP address at 212.67.121.121.

It follows that if you enter any of these names in OE, your ISP's DNS
server should find the correct mail server.

Thank you Bob,
I used 'mail.onetel.net' and we were in business, but I shall bear your
discovery in mind!
